Location: Reading


A well-established and highly regarded law firm is seeking an experienced and ambitious Private Client Partner to lead and further develop their thriving Private Client Department in Reading. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior private client lawyer to play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of a successful team while delivering exceptional service to a diverse range of clients.

The Role
The successful candidate will manage and undertake fee-earning work for a variety of private clients, including high-net-worth individuals, elderly clients, and those requiring complex tax planning. Key responsibilities include:

  • Case Management: Handling a broad caseload, including wills, trusts, estate administration, lasting powers of attorney, inheritance tax planning, and elderly client matters.
  • Leadership: Supporting the department's growth by mentoring and supervising junior lawyers, trainees, and support staff.
  • Strategic Development: Building and maintaining relationships with accountants, financial advisers, and other key partners to enhance business development and strengthen the department's reach.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensuring compliance with LEXCEL and ISO accreditation requirements and maintaining the highest professional standards.
  • Collaboration: Working with senior leadership to align the department's goals with the firm's strategic objectives.
  • Reputation Building: Enhancing the firm's excellent reputation in private client services through business development, client care, and marketing initiatives.


Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive, client-focused approach.

Essential:

  • A senior private client solicitor, legal executive, or partner with extensive experience in private client work.
  • Proven ability to manage high-value and complex matters, including estates, trusts, and tax planning.
  • A strong track record of supervising and mentoring team members, contributing to their professional growth.
  • Demonstrated success in marketing, business development, and building strategic professional networks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy caseload while maintaining attention to detail.


Desirable:

  • Membership in STEP, The Association of Lifetime Lawyers, or other relevant professional organisations.
  • Experience in Court of Protection applications.
